Dashboard failed to turn on after firmware update

As the title states. I was updating the firmware for the dashboard OTA and everything successfully went through without a problem. However, when it was complete and on the “rebooting dashboard” step, it froze for multiple hours (approximately 4). I could not leave the rover on over the night, and figuring the install was complete and there was either some bug or I needed to restart it myself, I turned off the robot. To test if the firmware update completed, I attempted turning the rover back on to check if the firmware successfully updated. However, now the dashboard is fully not turning on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For context, I was updating from firmware version 2 to firmware version 7 if that helps any.

hey @henrydalrymple53,

I’ve seen this happening when jumping multiple versions of the Dash FW and Updator applications at the same time. The way to recover is using the debug cable and forcing circuit_python to mount using the serial console. The steps are documented at out wired dash update doc, but high level, these are the steps:

  • Download the newest release (0.7.0)
  • Connect the debug cable to the dash and your laptop.
  • Run a serial console (recommend using the instructions Advanced Serial Console for your OS mount circuitpy.
  • Drag and drop files and reboot.

Let me know if this worked or shoot me an email at support@farm-ng.com to set up a time to do this together.

Thanks for the reply @MScatolin,
However, I am running into another issue. When I open the serial console, I am met with a login screen. The guide states that after connecting, I should Ctrl+C in order to exit this, but this is impossible due to aforementioned login. It is asking for a username and password, and I cannot recall if that is information I have access to.

EDIT Sorry, I am not of myself today and was trying to connect to the brain and not the dash. Whoops.
In better news and correct ports the manual firmware update worked, so thank you very much! This all happened due to the joystick cable breaking making it impossible to drive unless I updated firmware.

If I may ask, how could I order another one of these cables? I checked the store and didn’t see anything, and my homemade solution is temporary at best.

Again, thank you.

Good to hear it worked!

You can find the cable at Tethered Controller (Pendant) Cable Only – farm-ng

Sorry, our store is in process of migrating services, so a lille messy in the last couple of months.
