How do I weatherproof USB connections?

  • What package and version are you using ?
    Brain fw v0.1.9

  • Please, describe the issues you are seeing ?
There is an external USB type A connector covered by a weather cap on the rear of the Brain and there is also an M12 connector labeled β€œIO”. I did not find anything about the IO port in the datasheet. Is the IO port compatible with USB? Is there a breakout cable for the IO port (I can fabricate one if I have more info)? If not, are there USB type A connectors that have these weather caps (assuming it’s standardized)? Thanks.

Thanks in advance!

The USB interface is made by Amphenol. There is a lot of potential use cases, so depending on needs you might need to use a cord grip or other method to seal the other side of the USB device.

Sealed USB to cable end, for building a custom cable, 3 lengths
UA-30AFMM-LL7B01
UA-30AFMM-LL7B02
UA-30AFMM-LL7B03

This has some stock at Mouser

Sealed USB to standard USB, 3 different sizes
UA30FL-NAML-LB001
UA30FL-NAML-LB002
UA30FL-NAML-LB003

There is more stock of these

Regarding IO, this will likely be deprecated because the value of the IO, cost of the connector and supporting electronics has not justified a lot of attention. Because of the number of uses it is easier to push IO needs to CAN, Ethernet, or USB.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.
